Diabetics at Village Inn

Village Inn is a tough place for diabetics, and you must be extra cautious while ordering food at the Village Inn, especially if you're a diabetic. The food items low in sodium are high in sugar or cholesterol at Village Inn which makes it difficult for diabetics to choose the right food at the diner.

Foods to Avoid at Village Inn for Diabetics

Village Inn offers very few items edible for diabetics without any threat. You can avoid sandwiches and burgers at Village Inn and try the light breakfast items on the menu. You must also skip the shakes as well as other juices from the beverage menu. Almost all the dinner items on the menu are high in sodium except Grilled Tilapia and 6 oz. Top Sirloin & Toast. In Orange Beach last week for a beach vacation. We've been to OB probably 8-9 times over the years and Villaggio's is one of our go to places. Our reservation was for 6:00, we arrived a little early and were seated immediately. Jim was our waiter, he gave us time to look over the wine list as well as the menu so we could have an idea of what wine would pair with our dinner. After a few minutes, he returned with water and gave us the specials, took our drink order and left us to the menu. After a decent interval, he returned and took our order. Warm bread and olive tapenade to start, the tapenade had just the right amount of brininess. We started with the appetizer Devils on Horseback... it was not appetizing however. It was described as fried oysters wrapped in bacon and a diavolo cream. The oysters were tough and chewy, they didn't taste fresh. It had been fried too hot and too fast, and the diavolo cream was more like a old refrigerated paste; it wasn't creamy and did not have any kind of heat that you would expect with a name like diavolo. I had the divers scallops with spinach and peach risotto and saffron cream sauce; my wife had the special which was pan seared grouper over sweet and Idaho potato gratin with crawfish cream sauce, roasted Brussels sprouts with bacon. The scallops were the largest I've ever had anywhere and were perfectly cooked. Five to the order and I couldn't finish them. The risotto was excellent, my only gripe is that I would have preferred the spinach was torn into smaller bite size pieces; just my personal preference, it did not detract from the dish at all. The Brussels sprouts were also perfectly cooked, I stole as many as I could when she wasn't looking. We also liked the crawfish sauce, but the dish overall was too salty. This was probably because of the bacon but to leave it out would have hurt the sprouts. The saltiness of the tapenade earlier probably had a role in in it too. I had a Riesling, she had a Bellini, the white paired perfectly with the scallops and the peach in the risotto. Finished off with a Crème brûlée (my personal favorite), overall it was a very nice dinner. Service was excellent, Jim was always right on time with bread and refills. The devils were a disappointment and apparently I'm not the only one that had that observation; otherwise we were very satisfied with our meal.

We just attempted to sit at the bar and have dinner and drinks, but the bartender/Ivey was saving those two seats for her friends that left over an hour ago! Ivey said they were returning, and said we couldn't sit there! Business must be good to run off a few customers! Oh well, the raw oysters, Grouper and wine were great across the street at Baumhowers. I sure hope their management doesn't allow all of their employees to treat customers the way Ivey treated us at Villagios!

Ate lunch here - extremely good service and the food was delicious. About the best PEI mussels I have ever had, light salad with very fresh ingredients, hot freshly baked bread with olive oil for dipping. I was too full for dessert but the choices looked great.

Probably the best meal that we have had at the Gulf Shores/Orange Beach area. Great food, great service, great atmosphere, great wine list....everything top notch. Started out with Calamari. Fresh and tasty...not the Sysco calamari that most restaurants serve up. You can taste the difference . For our entrees, I got the Cowboy Ribeye (not on the menu but came recommended by our awesome waiter) amazing. Kim got the Seared scallops. Big thick juicy scallops cooked to perfection. Incredible 5* quality. We ordered a bottle of Meomi Pinot Noir. Absolutely devine. Capped it off with the Creme Brullee. Devine. On the higher side of fare, but totally worth it. Most restaurants are a bit high because of the area, and Villaggios is no exception. You get what you pay for....well, you are supposed to, anyway. We will be returning again and again. Edit: we went back for lunch the next day. Amazing. Again.

I agree with the 4.5 stars but don't want to give it a five. They start out with Italian French bread and olive oil with crushed olives in the middle. The amount of olives in the middle was a bit overwhelming. I will probably ask to do without the olives next time. The food was excellent and the service was pretty good. The seafood pasta had blue crab meat throughout to give it the seafood taste even after the shrimp and scallops were eaten. The scallops were cooked very well. I really liked my boyfriends shrimp plate better though. The carrot cake slice was big. They had a wide selection on their drink menu. They had indoor and outdoor seating. The wharfs atmosphere is nice especially pretty at night. This restaurant wasn't too crowded because it's pretty much back to school time. It got busier than they planned for so we kinda had slower service at the end. We were stuffed after and I would be willing to go again.

if you give this restaurant less than 5 stars, you are a snob. I'm from south Louisiana, where imho, we have some of the best food in the country. This restaurant can compete with any restaurant in LA. The mussel appetizer, filet mignon, and tuna entree were all amazing and the service was perfect.

It's been almost 18 months since I've been here and at that time, things did not go well. My neighbor who knows I'm a foodie, began harping on me to go to Villagio's Grille and try their Salmon Terrine appetizer saying it was amazing. So on the perfect early fall day, I had a desire for a nice glass of white wine and a light lunch. I was going to show no fear and come back to the Villaggio Grille. Firstly James our waiter he couldn't of been more pleasant a good guy to have around. He was helpful and expeditious. But, then just about everyone there asked us how things were. The pictures I took of these dishes we got, still don't do them justice. Awesome, awesome, awesome are the only words I have to describe the salmon and the calamari. The salmon for an appetizer could very well been an entree. Plated superbly and it was delicious. The Calamari was crisp with a light dusting of parmesan cheese and lemon. Did I have a previous bad day of did Villaggio? at this point I didn't care. The wine perfect, the food perfect, the service perfect! Tre Bien!!!

I made reservations through open table a month prior to visiting, not only did I received an email the day before my arrival as a reminder I received a phone call the morning of my dinner reservations confirming and several questions were asked to accommodate my party of 7, which I was very happy with. I enjoy and appreciate the attention to detail. When we arrived our table was ready and set for all of us and butcher paper was placed on top of the table cloth for the children to color on with crayons. Our server was Jim, he was very knowledgable about the menu and wine selection. We got the Smith and Hook Cab, which was FABULOUS, my husband for the ribeye, I got the white truffle gulf shrimp glazed in a honey sauce.. dish was sweet but very good. No complaints from my husband on the ribeye.. my daughter ordered the cheese pizza off the kids menu it looked good and she had no complaints. For dessert we did the tiramisu and chocolate cake and obviously no complaints there. I would recommend this place and definitely would visit again if in the Orange Beach area again. Attire is business casual.n. h

Villaggio's at the Wharf is a great place to dine. The restaurant is classy and casual at the same time. The wait and bar staff are very friendly and know their regular customers by name. They also have an incredible outdoor seating area that is in the shade in the afternoon. The restaurant is on the corner where all of the action is so you can people watch and see the light show later in the evening. There is usually a breeze even in the heat of the summer. We shared the Villaggio Flat, which is a pizza, among two people and that was plenty for us. The flat had a good quantity of meat on it but it wasn't so much that the flat was limp. We also had the goat cheese and walnut salad--it was scrumptious. By sharing a flat and each getting a salad the meal was reasonably priced--such a good value.

One of the best restaurants at the Wharf, Villaggio has routinely solid service and good food. With indoor and outdoor seating, a full bar, and a great atmosphere, Villaggio is perfect for a late-night dinner with co-workers, friends, or a date. Food: delicious wood-fired oysters (check out the sample plate); meatballs and polenta appetizer; risotto appetizer; the seared salmon entree; and the scallops entree are all strongly recommended. Steaks are top-notch. Great place for dinner.

Pork chop, calamari, tiramisu, pesto flat bread, and coffee = stuffed. That's what happened when I came here with my wife. We shared everything, the double-cut pork chop I cut exactly in half, was very good. However, when it first came out and the waiter was next to me, he had to bring it back into the kitchen because it was definitely undercooked. You just don't want to see a bunch of blood and very pink almost red meat in a pork chop. The pesto chicken flat bread was also good, but a tad greasy. It was actually heavy. The calamari was good and I really liked the dip that came with it. The tiramisu was good, but a tad dry. so what's my verdict? It was between OK and good, so if I could give it 3.5 stars that's what it would be, but I gave it 4 stars because our waiter was very nice and attentive. Good service always makes a difference. The food was a bit pricey I think for overall quality, but I can understand that it was more pricey because it was a vacation/tourist area. The location of Villagio Grille is quite strange, if you are not from Gulf Shores or Orange Beach or any nearby area, you'll find that it's located in a touristy type of vacation complex with many stores and residential/vacation rentals. It's sort of an isolated development with a large movie theater. In fact, the move theater sponsors every night a music and light show that happens every hour starting around 8pm. All the lights on the palm trees are synchronized to heavy music that advertises music in films, and some pop hits. We went to Village on recommendation, and the light show was a huge entertaining highlight. It just seemed weird because there was basically no one there. If you want to check out the light show and have decent food, I would suggest the Villagio, especially since they have ample outdoor seating.

This was a lovely restaurant, great atmosphere. Our server, James, was very sweet. Friendly & helpful. My son had the bbq chicken flat. I had the pork chop. The chop was a huge portion, so we ended up sharing it, as he was not impressed with his flat. The sauce on the bbq chicken flat was watery. Not sure about that. Overall, it was very good. A little pricey, but that was expected & understood before I went there. I'm sure I'll try it again on my next visit to this beautiful area.

We went here as a result of a plan that fell through, but we're really pleased we did. To put it simply the food was great as the service. The kids had "flat bread". Pizza, but interesting and done in a way the kids really liked. My wife and I had the veal. And it was great. But here is what set the meal apart. The service was great. Firstly it was not rushed. There was not a feeling that the business there to flip tables as fast a possible. It was relaxed. Leaving time for actual conversation. The menu was good, but my wife and I are on a low carb thing at the moment and so we choose the item without any mention of pasta, potatoes, etc. when the veal arrived it was over a bed of pasta. We were disappointed, but hey what can you do? The waiter was not happy with our response, took the meals away and returned with veal masala served over green beans and asparagus. Really nice! Recommend this place. Not cheap but done right.

This place was the biggest surprise of the year. We needed a place for dinner on Christmas Eve. There were two places open...this and a steakhouse. We were planning on Beef Tenderloin for Christmas day. We were very skeptical because it's in a shopping plaza with a HUGE Condo building as the anchor. Well, it was FABULOUS. We had a reservation but upon arrival saw a lot of festive (loud) guests at the tables. However, there is a wood fire oven with a bar so we asked to be seated there. Derrick was making pizzas and firing up oysters...dinner and a show!!! Let me just say it was one of the best Christmas Eve's we've ever had. The food and service were spectacular. The chef came to visit us because he "noticed we ordered several things". Between the two of us we ordered five dishes. Then he told us about upcoming events and even brought out Lobster Tortellini for us to try. He was making them up for a wine dinner that was coming up. We had the best time with Derrick and have told our friends that live there all about this hidden gem.

Wonderful Restaurant at the Wharf. We have only had lunch at Villagio and everytime the food and service have been excellent. When we have checked-in, we have been pleasantly greeted by either the owner or one of his well trained staff. Over the 5 or 6 times we dined at Villagio, we have had everything fro chicken parm, veal, salads and flatbreads and they were all delicious with generous portion sizes. Definitely a must dine when in OBA:)

Exceptional quality dining experience. Calm and welcoming staff and surroundings. Delicious, inventive menu selections using fresh ingredients. I grew up in Lower Alabama and have lived 25 years in south Louisiana, and this restaurant elevates the former with influences of the latter.

Just visited this evening. Our waitress, Lauren, was great. She was attentive and really cared about our experience. (Shoutout to Lauren!) Also, making a reservation was very easy. We just booked through Open Table and arrived at our allotted time. The atmosphere was very nice. Tables around us that weren't in use were clean and hostesses were constantly around filling waters (very important on summer days!) I would highly recommend this restaurant. The menu is great and our experience was wonderful.

Service was very kind, but a little slow. The food was good, would definitely recommend the pizza or blackened grouper. If you love tea, they have a wonderful assortment. The resteraunt was very clean, and a great place to eat at the warf. A little pricey, but a good place to eat. The reason I am at 3.5 stars is because the service was a little slow, and we waited a while after we got our food before we saw our server again.

One of our better meals on the trip, but a few cooking mistakes left a lasting impression for me. Started with meatballs, nice size portion, great flavor they even added a 4th meatball for our party of 4. Flats are big basically a medium pizza plenty for sharing. We had the margherita flat, excellent flavor, it was gone very quickly. Bolognese had a great flavor and was a huge portion. Unfortunately the some of the pasta was still uncooked. Granted it is a thicker pasta than most, but it's no excuse. Oddly about half of the pasta was cooked perfect and the other half was not. The pork chops are huge, so plan on a to go box if you order it. Seasoned nicely and cooked almost perfect. All in all it was a good meal, little expensive but for a nice meal it was appropriately priced. Oh and had a great beer here too, Truck Stop Honey, tasted like a Killians with a hint of honey.

Came to Villaggio's tonight with a party of 5. I've recently moved to Gulf Shores full time (after vacationing here since before I was born... if that's even possible). Tonight we decided to try Villaggio's. We shared the Butternut squash and crab soup as well as two different salads. I was happy to see that they were willing to split the salads (caesar and the goat cheese and walnut) in the kitchen before bringing them out. For entrees we had the pan seared scallops with pear and spinach risotto (sooooo yummy), the brown butter grouper, the white truffle honey gulf shrimp, and two orders of the bolognese. Wow.. there were no complaints with any dish. We sat outside and enjoyed the wonderful weather and service from Jennifer. She was an excellent server and knew the menu inside and out and was able to offer recommendations based on our interests. Also the food runners were great, and were attentive (unlike other places we've been to around Orange Beach). I also want to note that there is an excellent bartender (name might be EJ?), that made a mean Manhattan straight up and poured a great glass of wine. I can't wait to come back and enjoy the food, service, and drinks again.

Great experience. Lots of good choices on the menu, including several different risotto sides ( I often choose an entree based on whether it comes with risotto). Wine list was a cut above, and our server was knowledgeable about the wines as well as the food on the menu. A tad noisy, but otherwise nice atmosphere. A definite yes for a return visit!

This is my absolute favorite place to go in Orange Beach! I see that they have 3 $$$, but really... Their (ahh-mazing!) wood fired pizzas are pretty reasonable. They have a nice wine selection (also pretty reasonably priced) and a great atmosphere too!

We went to the Villaggio after a movie in Orange Beach. We were there for lunch, and they had a large number of lunch specials. I ordered off of the lunch men, the Balsamic Portabella on Focaccia ($10), which was very good. My husband ordered the Trigger Fish Sandwich ($9), and my grandparents ordered the Garlic Butter Oysters ($10) and the Beef and Bleu Salad ($10). We also all got a cup of the soup of the day, the shrimp BLT which was fabulous. We liked this restaurant very much because they pay a lot of attention to the flavor of the food; for instance, the Portabella sandwich had a basil-infused aioli. My husband's fish sandwich was perfectly spiced/flavored, and the soup was fantastic, I think we will try to make it at home. The service was wonderful and friendly, and we very much enjoyed our visit. Definitely a place to try!
